Say this
- A tower scaffold is put up by a scaffold erector and inspected by a scaffold supervisor before first use, then at least every 7 days, with a written report (WSH Council, WAH CoP). Check the tag before you climb.
- Guard-rails and toe-boards go on the top platform (WSH Council, WAH CoP). No missing braces.
- Lock every castor before anyone climbs up (WSH Council, WAH CoP).
- Never move the tower with anyone on it (WSH Council, WAH CoP). Clear tools and materials off the platform first.
- Before moving, check the route for power lines, overhead obstructions, holes and uneven ground (WSH Council, WAH CoP).
- Use it on firm, level ground. On a slope, it needs outriggers or must not be used there.
- Climb inside on the built-in ladder. Never climb the outside frame or stand on the guard-rail.
Ask the crew
- Who can inspect the tower and how often?
- What must you do before you climb up?
- What do you check before you move the tower?
Show them
- Show the scaffold tag and read the last inspection date.
- Lock and unlock a castor.
- Walk the route the tower will travel and point out the hazards.
