Say this

  1. Every new worker gets a named buddy for their first weeks. The buddy is an experienced worker from the same crew.
  2. Employers must give workers enough instruction, training and supervision to work safely (MOM, WSH Act duties). The buddy is part of how we do that.
  3. Buddies: on day one, walk them through the exits, the assembly area, the first-aid box and the no-go zones.
  4. New workers do not operate machines, enter permit areas or work at height alone until I sign them off.
  5. Workers new to Singapore, or back from more than a week of leave, build up time in the heat over at least 7 days (MOM heat stress measures). Buddies watch them closely in the afternoon.
  6. If you are new: ask before you do anything you are not sure of. A question takes a minute. An accident takes much longer.
  7. Buddies: if your new worker is struggling or unsafe, tell me the same day.

Ask the crew

  1. New workers: who is your buddy?
  2. What must a new worker never do alone?
  3. Where are the exits and the assembly area?
  4. What do you do if you are not sure how to do a task?
