Say this
- The best reverse is no reverse. Use one-way routes and drive-through bays where we can (WSH Council).
- Where reversing cannot be avoided, it happens in marked reversing areas. If you are not needed there, stay out.
- Drivers reverse only when a trained banksman or signaller directs them (WSH Council).
- Check the reversing alarm, camera and mirrors at the start of every shift. Alarms must be loud enough to hear over site noise.
- If you lose sight of the banksman, stop at once.
- Never walk behind a vehicle that is reversing, even if you think the driver has seen you.
- Barriers and wheel stops show drivers where to stop at bays and edges. Do not move them.
Ask the crew
- Who is allowed in the reversing area?
- What does a driver do if he cannot see the banksman?
- What do you check on a vehicle before the first reverse of the day?
Show them
- Walk the reversing area and point out the markings, barriers and safe waiting point.
- Test a vehicle's reversing alarm and camera with the crew.
- Show the blind spot by sitting a worker in the cab while someone stands behind.
