Say this
- A mosquito can grow from egg to adult in about a week. That is why we check every part of the site every week.
- Any water that sits is a problem. Puddles on slabs, water in canvas folds, buckets, drums and barriers.
- If you see standing water, tip it out or tell me. Do not walk past it.
- Put tools, buckets and covers away so they cannot catch rain. Turn containers upside down.
- The eggs can survive months without water. Scrub or dry the container, do not just empty it.
- These mosquitoes bite in the day. Wear long sleeves and use repellent, especially near drains and stored materials.
- Sudden high fever, bad headache or pain behind the eyes? See a doctor early and tell me. Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen on your own.
Ask the crew
- Name three places on this site where water collects.
- How often do we check for breeding?
- What do you do if you find water with wrigglers in it?
- What are the signs of dengue?
Show them
- A real breeding spot on site, or a photo of larvae in water.
- How to fold and store canvas so it does not hold water.
- The zone map and today's zone for checking.
