Say this

  1. Walkways, stairs and access routes must be kept free of debris and anything that could trip someone. Sharp projections must be removed or made safe (WSH Council housekeeping guidelines).
  2. Never stack materials on a walkway or against an exit, even for a short time. Stacks must not block passageways or the light (WSH (General Provisions) Regulations).
  3. Run cables and hoses overhead or along the edge. If one must cross a walkway, use a cable cover.
  4. Clean up spills straight away. If you cannot, put a sign out and tell me.
  5. Use the marked pedestrian routes. Do not cut through work zones or vehicle lanes.
  6. Keep one hand free on stairs and use the handrail.
  7. Report broken boards, missing covers and lights that are out. Do not wait for someone else to do it.

Ask the crew

  1. What should never be stored on a walkway?
  2. What do you do with a cable that has to cross a walkway?
  3. What do you do if you cannot clean up a spill at once?
  4. Which routes are for people and which are for vehicles?

Show them
