Say this
- If you see a spill, deal with it now. Stay with it or cover it with a sign, and get it cleaned. Don't step round it and leave it for the next person.
- Keep walkways clear. Don't park trolleys, boxes or tools in them, even for a few minutes.
- Cables and hoses across a walkway get covered or taped down. If you can't do that, route them another way.
- Use the handrail on stairs. Keep one hand free. If a load blocks your view, use the lift or a trolley.
- Look where you're going. Put the phone away when you walk through work areas or on stairs.
- Check your shoes. Worn soles slip. Ask for new ones before they let you down.
- Before you leave, tidy your area. Put tools away, coil hoses, sweep up and report anything you couldn't fix.
Ask the crew
- Where do spills happen most often in our area?
- You see a cable across the walkway. What do you do?
- When did you last check the soles of your safety shoes?
- What near miss have you had or seen this week?
Show them
- Where the spill kit and wet floor signs are kept.
- A cable cover and how to lay it.
- A worn safety shoe sole next to a good one.
