Say this

  1. These are today's first-aiders. Look at their faces and remember their names.
  2. The first-aid boxes are here and here. Take what you need, then tell the person in charge so they can restock.
  3. If someone is hurt, make the area safe first. Stop the machine or switch off the power. Do not become the second casualty.
  4. Shout for a first-aider. If the person is unconscious, has chest pain or is struggling to breathe, call 995 straight away.
  5. Give the exact address and the gate number. Send someone to the gate to meet the ambulance.
  6. Do not move someone who may have hurt their neck or back unless they are in danger where they are.
  7. Report every injury, even a small cut. The first-aider records it, and we use those records to fix the hazard.

Ask the crew

  1. Who are the first-aiders on this shift?
  2. Where is the nearest first-aid box to where you work?
  3. What number do you call for an ambulance, and what do you tell them?
  4. What is the first thing you do when you find someone injured?

Show them

  • Walk to the nearest first-aid box and open it.
  • The notice with first-aiders' names and the emergency number.
  • The gate where the ambulance will arrive and the route to it.
