Say this

  1. If you find a fire, shout and hit the nearest red call point. Then call 995 or tell your supervisor to call.
  2. When the alarm sounds, stop work and leave by the nearest safe exit. Leave your bags. Don't use the lift.
  3. Go straight to the assembly point and report to your warden. If you are missing from the count, someone may go back in to look for you.
  4. Only fight a small fire, and only with your back to the exit. If it doesn't go out in a few seconds, get out and close the door.
  5. Use the right extinguisher. CO2 or powder on electrical fires, never water. Pull, aim at the base, squeeze, sweep.
  6. If someone is hurt, check it is safe for you first. Then call for help and call 995 for anything serious, such as a fall, a crush, heavy bleeding or someone not responding.
  7. If they are not breathing, start CPR and send someone for the AED. Don't move them unless they are in danger where they are.

Ask the crew

  1. Where is our assembly point, and who is your warden?
  2. Where is the nearest call point and the nearest extinguisher from where you work?
  3. Which extinguisher would you use on a burning switchboard?
  4. A worker falls and does not respond. What are your first three actions?
